First steps!

Last night Garett stood behind his highchair and walked!! It was the first time he has taken any real steps. It was exciting to watch him. Here we go...

Down the stairs

Thanks to Tricia, our nanny, Garett has successfully learned how to maneuver going down the stairs! His first way was to go head first and slide down. After a couple of tumbles he realized that it is much easier and safer to go down backwards. Now that he can wander independently on the first floor of the house, there is another new found sense of independence. There is a look in Garett's eye that says, "I now I am big stuff, just watch me go where I want to." Currently our living room and kitchen is permenantly blocked with our chairs form our kitchen table. Although it changes the decor of the house, it is much better than chasing Garett down the hall every 30 seconds, becasue he is trying to go up and now down the stairs. Hopefully there will be some gates put up one of these days!

What happened to October?

Wow have we been busy! Since Garett's birthday, it feels like October has absolutely flown by, there has been something going on every weekend. Sometimes I wonder at what point since we have been in Colorado did we become so busy that every weekend is booked! I remember when we first moved, we were excited whe we had one thing in the summer to do! That is not the case anymore!

The weekend after Garett's birthday, we participated in the walk to remember, in honor of Jack. The Walk to Remember is an amazing organization that helps bereaved parents after they loose an infant. It was a rainy and cold day, but fitting for the somberness of it all. Before the walk, all the babies names were read, and as their child name was called a balloon was released. It was a powerfully sad, but comforting moment. It was chillling to see all the balloons, and realize all the heartache. But we left feeling proud to honor Jack in such a way!

Than the following weekend we made a quick trip to Minnesota, for my 10 year class reunion. When I say quick I mean, get to Minnesota at 10pm on friday and leave by 3pm on Sunday! It was a fun trip. It as great to see so many old friends. And of course Garett got to spend time with grandma and grandpa which he always loves, once he warms up to them! Thankfully warming up only takes about 10 minutes! He also got to see his great aunt Jan, both his uncles, Morgan and some 2nd cousins. Needless to say there was a lot of attention for Garett to have.

And that brings us to this weekend, a weekend at home. YEAH! A weekend to relax and build a patio for the hot tub. Not really relaxing I suppose, but at least we can spend it at home. We are also going trick or treating. Please don't aks what Garett is dressing up as for halloween, becasue he does not have a costume yet. I plan to leave that for Saturday...nothing like the last minute! He is trick or treating at my old work, it should be fun for all the residents and staff to meet Garett. It will be another first! Not his first Halloween, but first time trick or treating. Pictures will be posted!!

All this hub bub of the last month and Garett got a little of track with sleeping. But I am happy to say that he is back on track. I am attributing some of the poor sleep to the fact he is allergic to milk, just like Hans was when he was a baby! Man, there was about 2 weeks in there, were I thought he had reverted back to being an infant. I was a little cranky and tired (not fair to Hans). But thankfully we are back to formula, off the cows milk and everyone in the Iverson household is sleeping good at night! It is amazing how quickly you forget what it is like to be up every couple of hours and quickly you are reminded how terrible no sleep can be! But we are now resting easy...for the moment...until the top teeth come through! Until than I am enjoying the sleep.

So here we are almost done with October...wow.

Jack's Tree

On Friday the 3rd, we celebrated Jack's angel day, something we will do every year on that day. Of course it was sad, but we spent the day with family, the way it should be. Even as adults, our parents seem to make it all okay, kind of like mom's chicken soup when you have a cold. It was important to be with our parents on Jack's day. We spent the day in beautiful Ouray, Colorado. I felt it was kind of fitting to spend it surrounded by beauty, the beauty of the fall leaves, of a powerful waterfall, and majestic mountains. It was nice. And when we returned to Steve and Laurie's, together we planted a tree in memory of Jack. A flowering pear tree. A tree that blooms white flowers in the spring and brings red leaves in the fall. We can see it grow and remember Jack.

On Wednesday Garett celebrated his 1st birthday. Like most first birthdays, it was rather anti-climactic. More a celebration for the adults, than it is for Garett. But it was good none the less. It was a time to celebrate, oh where we have come in a year! He got lots of presents, lots of spoiling by both grandparents and lots of treats(and a little cake!). He did not care for the cake, I think it was the texture of the frosting that turned him off. I can't say the same for Lucky though, she loved every minute of cake experince. She loved it so much, she did not feel so well at about 5am the next morning. (Kind of reminds me of a good Friday night out...so much fun while it is happening, but you pay for it later!)

He was showered with presents too (go figure!). Clothes, toys, cards, and some money for college. Mostly Garett liked the paper and boxes, typical I guess. It was a nice day, a day to be thankful, be happy, be proud, be amazed by this little one year old that has stolen our hearts and come oh so far in this world. We said a little prayer and happy birthday to Jack too, I know he was celebrating with all the great grandparents and family from up above!
