This Christmas we had plans. In fact we had the last 2 weeks planned, each day, who we would be with, where we would go, what we would do. Making sure we saw everyone and cramming as much into out trip to Minnesota as we could. That tends to be what happens when we head back to Minnesota. Not this year. For anyone that watched the weather, you know it was bad in the Midwest. I have never wanted to control the weather more than I have the 23rd-26th of December. In fact come to think of it, it sure would be nice to control the weather. make sure there is no rain on a wedding day, beautiful weather for outdoor events, no wind when you are having a party, perfect clear roads when you are driving cross country, all sorts of reason to control the weather. But, we cannot. I know that, and was reminded of that over Christmas.
So instead of leaving on the 24th , we left a couple days later. And as upset as I was at the weather and the situation, looking back, it was ok. In fact it was nice to spend Christmas day as a family, just the 3 of us. Garett woke up to presents under the tree.

We made cookies and Garett helped frost them (and eat them!)
We spent the time together as a family. Which really, truly is what matters the most right? Being together.
And no, we didn't get to see everyone we wanted. And yes, it was a shorter trip, but maybe that is ok too. We were forced to simplify, which isn't always a bad thing either. We still celebrated Christmas with both families. We got to meet our new niece (she is beautiful by the way and a wonderful baby!). We celebrated a marriage on new year's eve (and our 5th anniversary!). We saw some old and dear friends and we had fun. It was a good, all be it shorter, trip back home.
And now best of all we are back home. Funny how that works. As bad as you want to leave for your trip, you equally want to return home. There is nothing better than sleeping in your own bed!
Back to reality, back to work, back to life. And onto a new year. May 2010 bring you all much peace and happiness. I know it will be an exciting year for us...
