Looking at the blog I can't believe it has been a month since I updated the blog! As you can guess we have been busy. Garett is changing leaps and bounds, I am so amazed at the changes I have seen in him, he is such a little boy!
Hans and I were lucky enough to be able to go to Hawaii in the beginning of March. Which meant Garett got to go on vacation...to Minnesota. Now normally you would think people would not want to travel to Minnesota in March, but Garett loved it. Go figure! He loved that he was with Grandma, Grandpa and uncles, which equals center of attention. He did great and had tons of fun. About half way through the week I was talking to my mom and she was saying what an incredibly good boy he was being. I asked he if she had seen his temper yet? She told me, "No, I has hardly even cried." I asked, "have you taken anything away from him or told him no?" She paused for a second and said, "no!" Than and there I knew he was having the time of his life in Minnesota, cold or no cold.
Hans and I had a wonderful time in Hawaii. It sure was nice to get back to our son. we missed him. It took awhile to get back on track, I call it detox for Garett. Detoxing after being with grandma and grandpa and getting everything you want. I am so glad that Garett is able to spend time with grandparents, it is something I always remember fondly about being a kid. BUT coming home to reality is always an adjustment. He is back on track, although it took him a bit because once we got home he decided he wanted to get out of the crib!
The other morning Garett gave Hans quite a surprise. It was about 5:30 am and Hans heard Garett stirring. He heard him moving around and before he knew it Hans opened his eyes and there was Garett staring at him! Needless to say, it gave Hans a scare. So we lowered the crib and the next night Garett got out. Don't worry though, we are smarter than a one year old, his mattress is now on the floor in the crib. If he gets out now, he is seriously the strongest kid in the world!
So we are back on track and sleeping well...thank goodness! Garett is also starting to talk...which is so exciting and a little scary too! His first real work was "that." He also says "dog," "more," "teddy," "all done," and "hey." He also says "mom" and "dad!" He points at everything and gets frustrated when we don't know what he wants he doesn't know how to tell us! We also see a temper! We have been witness to some frequent temper tantrums (fun I know). He is testing constantly. And he sure doesn't want help with much...he will do it on his own. He is a determined, independent and opinionated little boy. I think it is partly due to being a preemie, he learned early on how to fight! We wouldn't want it any other way! Hans continues to remind me it is not only part preemie and personality, it is part me too, apparently he got Hans' looks and my personality. I guess you can be the judge whether that is good or bad for Garett?!
Garett is growing and changing in leaps and bounds! He absolutely loves dogs and airplanes in the sky. He likes the park, especially the slide, he is partial to going head first. He likes to drink the yogurt rink from a straw and would much rather fruit snacks over any other snack. And don't even try to take his blanket away from him...he will let you know that it is very important to him in the form of screaming for it! Hard to believe he is a year and a half old on the first!
