Duck

I am realizing that a toddler learning new words is an amusing process. He amazes (and scares) me at his capacity to understand what we are saying. And the words are coming too! He says about 40 words right now pretty consistently and is starting to mimic what we tell him to say. He still (obviously) has a long way to go to speak out complex language. Case in point...

Hans was standing in front of the refrigerator and Garett was standing in front of him. Hans grabbed something out of the fridge and moved away. As he was about to close the door I told Garett to duck. Without missing a beat he turned to me a said "quack, quack, quack!" All while still standing in front of the door!

We laughed! All he knows is that a duck is an animal and it makes a quacking noise! No idea it meant to bend down out of the way! Ahhh...toddler humor for parents!

One more funny toddler story!

This one is a very real reminder we MUST watch what we are doing because someone is ALWAYS watching!

Garett was in out bathroom and he grabbed the extra saline solution bottle from below the sink. Next he proceeded to pretend squirt the solution into his hand and bring his hand up to his eye! He did this probably 10 times. I imagine he was wondering what all the fuss was about. "What is Dad doing every morning that is so important?" It's something he has seen Hans so every morning...put his contacts in his eyes! Garett was pretending to do the same. Amazing, such a simple task we do everyday and think nothing about, is something Garett has picked up on!

Yikes!! We are going to need to be extra careful with our words and action. Me in particular I better watch my car etiquette and phone conversations...someone is always listening.

family pictures

Much to Hans dismay we took some family pictures recently. Hans would say, "didn't we do this last year?" and I would remind him "yes" and politely remind him to smile for the camera! Eventaully he will get used to having pictures taken more frequently than on our wedding day and when he was born...eventually! Or knowing Hans he will never get used to pictures, so he will have to grin and bear it!

Anyway...

Our friends Juanita and Colin are starting a photography business (and if any of you actually lived in Colorado I would tell you to call her!). We were their subjects for a morning of pictures.
