In Garett's room there is a shelf with pictures of Jack, pictures of them both, of us as a family, imprints of his feet, a teddy bear. I was explaining to Garett how that is his twin brother. That Jack lives in heaven and we hold him in our hearts. And as I stopped talking, Garett looked at me and said shhh and put his finger over his lips. And than he did the same to me. Shhhh, mama. And than we stood quietly for a moment. I like to think we were both thinking of Jack (I know I was!) It was just that moment that seemed so appropriate, yet it came from a little boy who wouldn't know that was the right thing to do! . It definitely made me pause, smile and reflect. It warmed my heart, made me a little sad, and was peaceful all in the same moment. Funny how that works. I have always heard about people receiving "signs" from their child; a butterfly crossing their path, a rainbow when you least expect it, whatever it may be. But I had never experienced a "moment" where I wondered if that was Jack, until that moment. Now I can't say it was Jack, or a sign, but what I do know was there was a very clear moment of understanding from Garett. He doesn't yet understand what happened to his brother...or so I thought. Maybe he does understand on some level. Maybe it is an innate understanding of something that can only come from being a twin or loosing your brother. I don't know. What it is for sure was a moment I will remember forever. We need those moments in life to pause and wonder hmmm...
I think it's good for the soul.
